Old Mission Peninsula Day Trip

T

here are so many amazing things to see, even with snow on the ground, on the Old Mission Peninsula. Although the surrounding water was frozen, the views were incredible because the trees are bare. We started at the very end of the peninsula and walked out to the Old Mission Lighthouse which is situated on the 45th parallel.

The lighthouse is surrounded on three sides by walking trails. There are trails for the experienced hiker, bikers, skiers or even a leisurely stroll with the family. From there we stopped at Bad Dog Deli and grabbed a bite to eat. Their salads and sandwiches were delicious, a nice treat!

Finally we stopped at one of the many wineries on the peninsula, Bonobo Winery, which has amazing small plates and a delicious Rose’ (which was only $5 for happy hour). The view from their deck is one of the best ones on the Peninsula and the fireplace warms the inside and the outside, so we were perfectly cozy. They even had some games to help entertain the little ones! Overall, a wonderful experience and plenty more to see on another day!

Apple Cider Donuts

D

elicious Orchards calls its apple cider doughnuts “famous” for good reason – they’re soft, sweet, and sturdy enough to withstand a few dunks in some coffee. There’s cider and ample seating inside and out, not to mention a market with tons of produce. Make a day of it; there’s plenty to see and do here!
