ake Hefner is surrounded by desirable neighborhoods in various price ranges. Over the last several years the lake has become a destination point for active lifestyles, as well as offices and top ranked restaurants.
Whether I’m walking around the lake or dining out, I find watching the sailboats especially appealing. This has been a good summer for sailing on Lake Hefner. I have been out several times with my friend and have learned to enjoy the sport immensely. I have also learned to be a fairly good second mate! I find the longer I sail, the fewer times I’m hit in the head with the boom! This is definitely a good thing.
My friend docks her boat at the Oklahoma City Boat Club. The club was originally established in the early 1930’s on Lake Overholser and moved to Lake Hefner around 1944. There is also a City of Oklahoma City harbor.
The OCBC has changed and grown over time. Currently the club sponsors a youth program, regular races and social activities for its members. On a recent sail we saw college teams from OSU and UCO competing on the lake.
