Kenner Is an Affordable Gem

K

enner, the city where I spent a good part of my childhood, is just about 14 miles west of New Orleans and has so much to offer. The history of Kenner begins around 1718 — The French found New Orleans and marked “Cannes Brulee” on maps upriver in the area known today as the City of Kenner. I have witnessed an amazing, beautiful transformation of this tight community, a city where everyone knows their neighbor and friends are family. Front porches and sidewalks are for sitting out and talking because you know someone who is related to someone else you know. If you need something, your neighbor has it and gladly offers. Backyards full of parties all year round. Where the rules are not so strict, but the residents expect manners. My children have very fond memories of growing up in Kenner, and often say that they only wish that they could raise their children in such a neighborhood. I am still very connected to many of the people that I grew up with over 40 years ago. We all raised our children together as well. A city where parents coach their children on the same fields that they played on as children themselves. Where everyone’s mother is…everyone else’s mother, too.

Don’t Let April Showers Keep Your Workout Inside

D

on’t let April showers keep you from enjoying the outdoors. Lake Vista is a crushed limestone trail that is enjoyable any time of the year! This four mile escape from reality trail has been one of my favorites to run, walk my dog, or ride my bike. Challenging yet doable with nature surrounding you and views of Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo along the treed path have never disappointed me or my pup! Three entrances to this trail with safe parking, open 24 hours a day/365 days a year and porta potties make trying this trail a no brainier! What are you waiting for? Get outside and enjoy!

Living In Cinnamon Ridge

M

y wife and I moved from Houston a few years ago. We bought a house in Cinnamon Ridge, sight unseen! It was a new construction home and we really didn’t know much about the area or the neighborhood. Coming from a three story townhouse in the heart of downtown Houston that looked at the skyline to a home on just under an acre in Cinnamon Ridge was border line culture shock, but in a good way.

It’s amazing how the simple things mean so much. Things like your neighbors waving at you when you pass by, or just seeing the wildlife in your backyard. The sunsets and sunrises really are gorgeous in this neighborhood since we are surrounded by farmland. I’m able to go to the farm next door and pick up a carton of eggs out of a Tupperware bowl with a cash box next to it that operates solely on the honor system, they’re quite often still warm because they’re that fresh.

We love all the recreation at our fingertips in the location like Spider, Arbutus, and several other lakes within a mile or two from our front door. Three mile dead ends into East Bay where there’s a public park and beach only five minutes away. The Boardman River runs right behind us as well as 1600 acres of state owned land, brown bridge quiet area. Not to mention we’re only about 15 minutes from downtown Traverse and about 15 minutes from Grand Traverse Resort. The location really is ideal while offering proximity to so many great amenities that so many desire moving to the area.
