There’s a New Coffee Shop in Town!

W

ell, what a treat and long overdue!!  What used to be a bank, is now transformed into “The Coffee Potter”. It’s located at 24 Schooley’s Mountain Road. The Coffee Potter had only been open less than a week when I first stopped by. I arrived at 4:00 p.m. and the place was packed with friendly, happy customers. My friend and I shared a blueberry scone which was delicious, a cup of coffee and cappuccino. There is a lovely sitting area that faces the street, where you can meet with friends, family or business associates. Free WiFi and a pleasant atmosphere. One more thing:  there’s a drive through window for the convenience of moms with small children who can’t easily run in and grab a quick cup. Dunkin’ Donuts beware!

Northwest Michigan Is a Great Place to Bird Watch

I

was lucky enough to be raised by a biology teacher dad. We often took family hikes and went bird watching. Every spring I can’t wait to see what birds come back to my area. I just finished a Resort and Second Home certification course and it was brought to my attention that bird watching is a really big thing! A recent study even reported that in America, bird watching is one of the most rapid growing outdoor activities now. The other day on my walk by the Betsie River lowlands, I saw a new sign posted announcing that my trail has been designated an M-22 Sleeping Bear Birding Trail. Pretty exciting stuff!

The Piers at Pass Christian

W

hen I first moved to Pass Christian I loved watching the sunset at the local piers near the harbor. Sadly, shortly after purchasing my home the piers were severely damaged during a storm and remained damaged until recently. I have three beautiful sons all under the age of six. Boys are a handful, always needing an activity to occupy their running minds. It seems their attention span becomes shorter as they age as do the “new and exciting” places to visit.

Back to the piers. We happened to be driving along Beach Boulevard and I noticed a fisherman far off casting a line from the pier that my wife and I would visit when we first moved to the area. And with that glance, I quickly drove into the harbor and up to the edge of what was pure excitement for me. We unloaded our children quickly and ran out over the water; the boys were dancing, laughing, and exploring – as was I.

The piers are a great place now. Whether you’re casting a line, wanting to watch the sunset with the special person in your life, or just wanting to catch a salty breeze, I encourage you to visit the local piers in Pass Christian; you won’t be disappointed.
