Spring Is Coming!

I

‘ve been seeing robins for a while now and the groundhog didn’t see his shadow, so hopefully we will have an early spring. The wind definitely blew like March yesterday and the day before here in the Arkansas River Valley. I’m anxious to see the trees bud out, grass green up, flowers bloom and gardens start growing.

People considering selling their homes should be sorting and clearing the clutter. Sell, donate, store or trash the non essentials. Checking the property’s interior and exterior for needed maintenance or repair and completing the noted items will have the home ready for pictures, listing and showing in time for spring’s arrival.

Life on Downing Avenue

W

hat a great area in Waterloo to call home!  Downing Avenue is located on the border line of Waterloo/Cedar Falls. My parents were among the first to build their dream home back in 1960 on one of the lots, which at that time was considered the edge of town. In fact, my mom, who’s now 85, still recalls having to pick corn stalks out of the yard in order to plant grass seed, as this plot was a farmstead.  As kids, we played hide and seek and kick-the-can past the street lights coming on, we walked to the many parks nearby, and we fished in the Black Hawk Creek.  Most of the yards are generous in size along Downing Ave. There is plenty of room to play baseball, football and all the current sports, or just kick back flying a kite or chasing the dog.  Lots of the original owners are still living in their homes as well and still take pride in ownership.  When I grew up I purchased my first home in this area that I enjoyed so much as a kid.

A Place in Our Hearts!

M

y children attended all grades in Wylie schools and graduated from Wylie schools. I have two Wylie Pirates and one Raider! We were a house divided when it came to sports, but my children had an exceptional time in Wylie schools! They still come home and discuss teachers, sports and friends they had. Wylie schools will always have a place in our hearts!

When my children were going to school here there weren’t as many campuses. Wylie has grown and now has 19 campuses so families have many school choices when choosing a home here. You can find a home that is walking distance to 9 grades or on a bus route that will take and bring your children home. I have provided the link below of the Wylie School Map. If you find a home you like online, plug the address in on this link and it will tell you all the schools your child will attend, bus routes and the times the buses arrive!
