his time of the year produces some of the most spectacular weather. Dramatic, autumn cloud patterns that are the backdrop to an array of deciduous colors make for the perfect visual picnic. I have also noticed that the insect population is directly proportional to the number of people visiting our area and Fall brings that lower influx of people and pestilence. My wife and I recently hiked the Sturgeon Bay portion of the North Country Trail. What a fun and relaxing time – no bugs, very few people, if any, and the colors, smells and sounds of the wilderness were just the ticket to recharge after a busy week at RE/MAX Lighthouse. So, if you reside in our neck of the woods or would like to experience the outdoors specific to our area: Don’t wait! Come have some fun because Fall soon will be gone and…oh, I see snowflakes as I am typing.

he days will soon be cooling off and the smell of camp fires will be in the air. If you’re looking for an escape to the wilderness, it’s closer than you think. The Long Leaf Horse Camp and Trails are located between Laurel and Richton, about 30 minutes from Petal and up Hwy 42, and then a left onto Hwy 15, entering into the Chickasawhay District of The DeSoto National Forest. This is not to be confused with The Longleaf Trace, “Rails to Trails”.
This is one of my favorite places to get away to. I can hear the wind wooing me from on top of the Longleaf pines, to go a little deeper into the nature to clear the clutter from my mind. It doesn’t get much better than when I’m out there in the woods on my loyal mount with a group of friends. Hope you enjoy. “Life is good”.
