Old Depot Museum Is Full of History

T

he Old Depot Museum is filled with Ottawa and Franklin County history. It has so many fun facts about the history of this county. I have lived in the Ottawa area my entire life. The last time I was at this museum was when I was in elementary school!

When I recently walked in the doors of this museum, I felt like I was walking back in time. Not only because of the artifacts and photos and different pieces that are in the museum, but it brought me back to my childhood, easier and less stressful days for sure. I was happy to expose my two children to the museum today. As it’s in our hometown, we took advantage of this great place thatis right at our fingertips and within walking distance.

I urge anyone who is visiting the Ottawa area to definitely stop in and walk through the museum You will be surprised and come out with a lot more knowledge of what Franklin county history really is. Thank you, Ottawa, for keeping the Old Depot Museum for us so we can pass along your treasures to our children and generations to come.

Growth Can Be Good

A

s a “transplant” to the city of Fenton about 15 years ago, I have watched this small town and the area called “Dibbleville” transform. The once beautiful but tired old buildings have been restored, renewed, and brought back to life. People are walking around our beautiful town where, once upon a time, you only saw this kind of activity when a small group would gather at the gazebo to photograph a special event.

Parades have always brought us together, but the stay in town was short. Now, new shops, services, and restaurants are welcoming our friends and neighbors. People, young and old alike, are meeting their friends, enjoying ice cream, taking a stroll or a run along the street, or just hanging out together by the river. One thing that hasn’t changed, people say “hi” or smile as they pass each other along the way. Can’t beat this small town!
